Olle Dahlin, President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), told why the executive committee of the organization decided to extend sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes. This is reported by Match TV.
"Since the situation in Ukraine has not improved, the position of the IBU executive committee is still the same," Dalin said. The decision to extend the suspension of Russians and Belarusians from international competitions was made earlier on Monday, August 16.
On April 5, the head of the Russian Biathlon Union (RBU), Viktor Maigurov, assessed the prospects for changing sports citizenship by the leaders of the national team. He said that the organization does not expect this from the team leaders because of the IBU sanctions.
On March 2, the IBU Executive Committee banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions. In addition, the membership of the SBR was suspended.
